Meghalaya government to cancel several private power projects for which MoUs were signed

The Meghalaya government is planning to cancel several private power projects in the state for which MoUs were signed between 2007 and 2014 due to various reasons. The 69 MW Umjaut and 57 MW Umduna hydropower projects, that are being developed by ETA Star Infrastructure Limited, are being considered for cancellation due to delay in the submission of the detailed project report. Other hydropower projects include Sew Energy Limited’s 65 MW Rangmaw and the Jaypee Group’s 325 MW Kynchi Stage II projects that are held up due to feasibility issues/environmental considerations. Thermal power plants (TPPs) facing cancellation include GC Power Private Limited’s 300 MW Narringre TPP and Brijraj Power and Metallics Limited’s 30 MW captive TPP.
