ABB completes testing of ±1,100 kV transformer for UHV DC line in China

Swedish-Swiss company ABB has completed a series of type tests of a ±1,100 kV transformer to be supplied for the world’s first 1,100 kV ultra high voltage direct current (UHVDC) project being developed by the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). In addition, ABB has developed and successfully tested a range of other key ±1,100 kV components such as converter valves, bushings and DC circuit breakers. The planned project will span 3,284 km, linking Changji in the Xinjiang region in the northwest, and Guquan in Anhui province in eastern China, and will have a transmission capacity of 12 GW.
