Kerala State Electricity Board Limited (KSEBL) has commenced operations of its 500 kW floating solar plant at the Banasura Sagar reservoir in Wayanad, Kerala. It is the largest ever floating solar plant in the country. The plant, which will float on 1.25 acres of water surface of the reservoir, consists of 1,938 solar panels with a capacity of 260 W, a 500 kVA transformer and 17 inverters. It has been set up at a cost of Rs 92.5 million and is equipped with a supervisory control and data acquisition system. The solar plant is expected to generate 0.75 MUs of power annually, which will be fed into KSEBL’s grid via underwater cables.
