MNRE notifies competitive bidding guidelines for wind projects

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has notified the Guidelines for Tariff-based Competitive Bidding Process for Procurement of Power from Grid Connected Wind Power Projects. These guidelines mark a shift from the feed-in tariff regime to the competitive bidding regime in the wind power sector and aim to facilitate power purchase by distribution licensees in a cost-effective manner. In a separate development, the MNRE is planning to auction 5 GW of offshore wind power capacity in 2018. This would mark the first bidding for offshore wind projects in India.
