The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) has released a proposal to amend the existing solar rooftop implementation mechanism. As per the proposal, the implementation of rooftop solar projects would be the responsibility of discoms and they will be eligible to receive financial assistance to the tune of Rs 234.5 billion depending on how they perform in facilitating the development of solar rooftop. The discoms will receive incentives for each megawatt of solar rooftop capacity addition and these installations would be counted as a part of their renewable purchase obligations.
