MoEFCC’s EAC grants clearance to NHPC’s 800 MW Bursar HEP in Jammu & Kashmir

The Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change’s (MoEFCC) Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) has granted clearance for NHPC Limited’s 800 MW Bursar hydroelectric project in Jammu & Kashmir. The EAC had earlier taken a decision to grant the clearance only after a site visit by a subcommittee. However, since the site visit was not possible before June 2018 owing to weather conditions in the state, the clearance was granted to avoid delays in the project. The speedy clearance for the project is in line with the central government’s decision to ensure greater exploitation of India’s share of water in the Indus Water Treaty.
