Punjab government to provide power to industrial consumers at Rs 5 per unit

The Punjab government has issued orders to the state’s electricity department to provide power to industrial consumers at a subsidised variable cost of Rs 5 per unit and bear a power subsidy of Rs 7.48 billion for the same for 2017-18. The government will bear 50 per cent of the financial implication amounting to Rs 3 billion from April 2017 to October 2017. The remaining will be borne by the industry, which will deposit the arrears in 12 equal interest-free monthly instalments.
