Egypt to build a 2,400 MW pumped storage hydro plant at Ataqa Mountain

The Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy of Egypt is planning to set up a 2,400 MW pumped storage hydropower plant at Ataqa Mountain in Suez. The EPC contract for the project has been awarded to Sinohydro, a Chinese state-owned hydropower engineering company, while the consortium of AF-Consult Switzerland Limited and Artelia has been appointed as owner’s engineer for the project. The project entails a cost of around $2.6 billion and is slated for completion by 2024.
