Mitsubishi Hitachi Power Systems Limited (MHPS) has secured a contract for the supply of turbines and equipment for the 5.3 GW natural-gas-fired power project near Bangkok, Thailand. Under the contract, MHPS will be responsible for the supply of eight gas turbines for two gas turbine combined cycle power plants with a capacity of 2.65 GW each. MHPS’s gas turbine technology is designed to reduce carbon emissions by 70 per cent as compared to conventional coal-fired systems. The plant is being developed by a JV between Gulf Energy Development Public Company Limited and Mitsui and Company Limited. Once operational, the power generated from the plant will be purchased by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand to meet the country’s growing power demand.
