ABB secures TCSC technology contract from South Korea’s KEPCO

Swedish-Swiss company ABB has received an order from South Korea’s Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) to supply innovative series compensation technology that will help strengthen long-distance transmission and provide more reliable power to the north-eastern part of the country. ABB will deploy thyristor-controlled series compensation (TCSC), which will provide controllability and flexibility, and also address complex power quality issues in the country’s grid. The contract is a part of the country’s effort to optimise its transmission and distribution network to ensure a stable power supply and build grid resilience to avoid outages and blackouts.
