CEA notifies final National Electricity Plan on Generation

The CEA has finalised the National Electricity Plan (NEP) pegging the thermal power capacity requirement at 6,440 MW during the period 2017-22. This is in addition to coal-based power projects aggregating 47,855 MW which are currently under construction and likely to yield benefits during the period. In the previous draft version of the NEP released in 2017, the CEA had projected that no additional thermal power capacity will be required during the period.
