Siemens secures contract from China-based Sinohydro for gas-based plant in Iraq

Siemens has won a contract from China-based Sinohydro to add 700 MW to the Rumaila gas-based power plant in Iraq. The plant currently has a generation capacity of 1,500 MW. Under the contract, Siemens will supply its SST-5000 steam turbines, which will ensure additional power supply without extra fuel requirement and increase the overall plant efficiency to more than 50 per cent by converting the facility into a combinedcycle mode. The upgradation work is slated for completion in 2020.
