Delhi government approves policy for compensation by discoms for unscheduled power cuts

The Delhi government has approved the policy regarding compensation to consumers by distribution companies for unscheduled power outages. As per the policy, the discoms will have to restore power within an hour of an unscheduled outage, failing which it will have to pay each consumer Rs 50 per hour for the first two hours and Rs 100 per hour after that. In case of recurrent cuts for the same consumer on the same day, the discoms will be liable to pay a penalty of up to Rs 5,000. The policy has been sent to the governor for final approval.
