NTPC has invited bids to procure 2,000 MW of renewable energy (solar and wind) to be bundled with power from its non-pithead thermal power plants (TPPs). Operational and planned renewable energy units can participate in the tender. Power from TPPs will be blended with 10-20 per cent of renewable energy and these units will be used as peaking units. The move follows the MoP’s recent guidelines that give coal-fired power plants with regulated tariffs the flexibility to generate and blend thermal power with renewables.
