Andhra Pradesh government reduces power tariffs for consumers with smart meters

The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to reduce power tariffs by Re 1 per unit during off-peak hours for domestic and industrial consumers using smart meters. The move is expected to increase the adoption of smart meters in the state besides helping to flatten the day load curve and stabilise the off-peak consumption. Further, the government has stipulated the state discoms to clear pending applications for about 75,000 agricultural pump sets. In addition, there are plans to award the implementation of the power evacuation line from the Polavaram project to private companies via the tariff-based competitive bidding process.
