Himachal Pradesh government approves amendments in state hydro policy

The Himachal Pradesh government has approved amendments to the state hydro policy in a bid to revive stalled projects aggregating 5,500 MW. Accordingly, it will be mandatory for Himachal Pradesh State Electricity Board to purchase power produced by hydroeletcric projects (HEPs) with a capacity of up to 10 MW. Also, the generic tariff applicable to HEPs up to 25 MW will be from the date of commissioning and not from the date of the implementation agreement. In addition, wheeling charges/ open access charges have been waived for HEPs up to 25 MW capacity. Further, royalty rates for allotment of new projects will be rationalised and the dispensation to provide 12 per cent free power to the state for 12 years will be deferred.
