Mahagenco plans 1,600 MW of thermal capacity at Umred

Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited is planning to set up two thermal power units of 800 MW each at Umred. The units would be set up at Gokul and Piraya, considering their proximity to Nagpur city, which would enable the company to utilise the treated wastewater from the city at the new power units. The proposal has already been sent for environmental clearance. The move comes in the backdrop of the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission’s directive to shut down thermal units which are over 25 years old.
