RBI declines MoP’s request to relax guidelines on resolution of stressed assets

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has declined the Ministry of Power’s (MoP) request to relax the guidelines on the resolution of stressed assets for power companies. In a written communication to the MoP, the RBI has stated that it does not look into sectoral issues and cannot provide special dispensation to any particular sector. However, banks are reportedly working on a scheme to bail out stressed assets. The resolution will be worked out in alignment with RBI’s timeline and guidelines of the RBI.
