Union government scraps 7.5 per cent on import duty on solar modules

The union government has scrapped the 7.5 per cent import duty levied on solar modules. Various solar module consignments worth over $150 million were stuck at ports for over three months after the customs department reclassified the modules as “electric motors and generators”, thereby attracting a 7.5 per cent import duty. The change in customs policy happened in August 2017.
