Gujarat government launches tender for procurement of 1,000 MW of power

The Gujarat government has launched a tender for the procurement of 1,000 MW of power on a short-term basis from August 1, 2018 to June 30, 2019 under the Flexible Utilisation of Coal scheme. Under the mechanism, the state will transfer coal from the Korba coalfield in Chattisgarh and the Korea-Rewa coalfield in Madhya Pradesh, which was originally allocated for generating stations of Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited, to the new successful bidders. The tender has been issued to compensate for the shortfall of about 3,000 MW of power due to the curtailment of supply from respective imported coal-based power plants of Adani Power Limited and Essar Power Limited.
