Andritz receives $139.5 million contract to modernise 3,000 MW hydro plant in Tajiskistan

Austrian technology group Andritz AG has received a $139.5 million contract to rehabilitate and modernise the 3,000 MW Nurek hydro plant on the Vakhsh river in Tajikistan. Under the contract, Andritz will restore the generating capacity of nine turbine-generator units, improve their efficiency and enhance the safety of the Nurek dam. It will also supply and install new 380 MW Francis turbines and generators and new transformers, as well as the electrical and mechanical auxiliary equipment within the powerhouse. The rehabilitation work is being financed by the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank and the International Developmental Association.
