China synchronises Haiyang 1 nuclear unit to the grid

The China National Nuclear Corporation and the State Nuclear Power Technology Corporation have jointly connected the Haiyang 1 nuclear unit in Shandong province to the Chinese grid. It is the first of its kind AP1000 unit in the world to have begun generating power. Further tests will be carried out before the unit is completely commissioned. Meanwhile, the Sanmen 2 unit located in Zhejiang province of China has attained first criticality and is expected to be synchronised with the grid by the end of 2018.
