NTPC and DVC to comply to revised emission norms by December 31, 2021

The central government has directed NTPC Limited and the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC) to comply with revised emission standards for sulphur dioxide and particulate matter by December 31, 2021. In a hearing at the Supreme Court, the central government stated that NTPC has 48 thermal power plants while DVC has nine such units, which were located in dense or critically polluted areas. The tenders for meeting the norms for these projects will be awarded by December 2018. NTPC is already conducting a pilot project on nitrogen dioxide emission reduction and is expected to control it within permissible limits by December 2022.
