Strategic Power Development Corporation (SPDC) plans to increase the capacity of the 345 MW San Roque hydro power plant in the Philippines to 1,200 MW. SPDC is a unit of the SMC Global Power Holdings Corporation, the power business of the Filipino multinational San Miguel Corporation. The Philippines’ Department of Energy has approved SMC’s three hydropower projects with a total capacity of about 1,000 MW. These include the 100 MW Nabuangan run-of-the-river hydro project in Aphe ayao, the 500 MW Dingalan pumped storage hydroelectric plant in Aurora and the 400 MW San Roque Lower East Pumped Storage plant in Pangasinan.
