MoP plans to launch second round of medium-term PPA auction

The MoP plans to launch the second round of 2,500 MW medium-term PPA auction to provide relief to stressed assets. The ministry is mulling to launch a formal scheme on the same lines as the pilot power procurement scheme that was launched in April 2018. Under the pilot scheme, PTC India Limited signed PPAs with four state distribution companies in Bihar (200 MW), West Bengal (200 MW), Telangana (550 MW) and Tamil Nadu (550 MW). In addition, it signed power supply agreements (PSAs) of 1,900 MW capacity with seven independent power producers (IPPs) in October 2018 at a tariff of Rs 4.24 per kWh (without any escalation for the next three years). The IPPs are RKM Powergen (550 MW), Jhabua Power (100 MW), MB Power (Madhya Pradesh) Limited (175 MW), SKS Power Generation (Chhattisgarh) Limited (300 MW), Jindal India Thermal Power (125 MW); IL&FS Tamil Nadu Power Company (550 MW) and Jaypee Power Ventures (100 MW).
