Sterlite Power has submitted bids for two storage projects in the recently concluded auction of the Salt River Project (SRP) in Arizona, USA. The bids are submitted for a cumulative capacity of 400 MW. The solution provides for the utility’s capacity and energy needs, including ancillary services. This is Sterlite Power’s first foray into grid-connected battery energy storage systems (BESS). Grid-connected BESSs are rapidly achieving commercial viability for utilities around the world as total system costs have dropped by 60 per cent over the past five years.
