Malaysian government issues tender for 500 MW solar PV projects

The Malaysian government has issued a competitive bidding tender for 500 MW of grid-connected solar projects under Phase III of the country’s Large Scale Solar (LSS) programme. Developers can submit bids for projects with capacities ranging between 1 MW and 100 MW until August 19, 2019. Foreign bidders involved in a consortium can take up to 49 per cent stake in the projects. The projects under the LSS programme are expected be commissioned in 2021 and will sell the electricity produced to state-run power utility Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) under power purchase agreements (PPAs). The projects will entail a total investment of MYR 2 billion (about $490 million).
