French cabling solution provider Nexans has secured a Euro100 million turnkey contract from private grid concessionaire NGCP for manufacturing, delivering, and installing 350 kV high voltage direct current (HVDC) submarine cables for the Visayas-Mindanao Grid Connection Project (VMIP) in the Philippines. NGCP launched VMIP to connect the three power grids of Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao into one unified national grid. With its completion expected by 2020, the NGCP aims to ensure more stable and secure supply of power in the country and maximise the use of available local energy resources. The project is estimated to cost PhP 51.67 billion.
