The South Korean Nuclear Safety and Security Commission has given Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power permission to start operation of the 1,340 MWe Shin Kori-4 Advanced Pressurised Reactor-1,400 (APR1, 400). The construction of Shin Kori-4 started in August 2009 and the commissioning is expected by end 2019. The plant consists of three reactors – two of 1,000 MW capacity each that were commissioned in 2011 and 2012, and one 1,400 MW Korean-designed reactor, which was commissioned in December 2016. Apart from Shin Kori-4, the project has received approvals to add two more reactors (APR 1,400) by 2024.
