AGL Energy to build 250 MW pumped storage project in Australia

Australian utility AGL Energy Limited has signed a binding agreement with Hillgrove Resources Limited to build a 250 MW pumped hydropower storage facility at an open cut copper mine in South Australia’s Adelaide Hills region. The company has secured the right to develop, own and operate the plant, and if the project is approved it will be put into operation by 2024. AGL Energy will be paying $31 million through a staged payment scheme for the rights to develop the proposed pumped hydropower storage project.
