French utility EDF Group has signed an agreement with the China Energy Investment Corporation to jointly construct and operate two offshore windfarms totalling 500 MW in capacity, in China. According to the agreement, the EDF Group will pick up stakes in the two offshore wind power projects, Dongtai IV and Dongtai V, located in Jiangsu province. The offshore projects will be the EDF Group’s first in China and also represent a breakthrough in the Chinese offshore wind market for a foreign company. While Dongtai IV has already entered the construction phase, Dongtai V is expected to do so later this year. The wind farms are likely to be commissioned by 2021. The EDF Group operates in the global offshore wind market via its subsidiary EDF Renouvelables.
