Sweco AB receives contract for rehabilitation of Cahora Bassa in Mozambique

European engineering consultancy company Sweco AB has received a $5.2 million contract related to the rehabilitation of the 2,075 MW Cahora Bassa hydropower plant in Mozambique. The hydro project can generate up to 18,000 GWh of electricity per year. The power station also exports a significant amount of electricity to South Africa, Botswana and Zambia. The Cahora Bassa project was built in the 1970s and is now in need of rehabilitation. The rehabilitation project is scheduled for completion by 2025.
