Finnish energy company Fortum will bring nitrogen oxide (NOx) reduction technology to India under its new business, Fortum eNext, for environmental technology, enabling coal-fired power plants to reduce their emissions and make the air cleaner to breathe. As a part of this initiative, it organised a seminar in Delhi and Mumbai. The company has already conducted a successful pilot project with NTPC at its Ramagundam power plant on 2×200 MW e-wall-fired boilers, and a 1×500 MW tangential-fired boiler. The aim of the study was to demonstrate and prove that Fortum’s long-utilised NOx reduction technology is suitable for the Indian market. Results showed that the technology can be implemented to meet the desired NOx emission levels mandated by Indian regulation at any local power plant.
