ABB secures order from Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Company

The Swiss-Swedish engineering firm ABB has secured an order from Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Company for the supply of two blocks each of 300 MW frequency converter systems associated with the Higashi Shimizu transmission project in Japan. ABB has secured the contract through Hitachi ABB HVDC Technologies Limited, a joint venture between Hitachi Limited and ABB. Hitachi will construct the systems using a combination of ABB high voltage direct current (HVDC) converter along with a control and protection system, and Hitachi converter transformers. ABB will supply its system engineering, voltage source converter technology called HVDC Light, as well as the digital solution with the ABB Ability MACH control and protection system.
