Egypt’s EETC completes first phase of 500 kV Egypt–Sudan interconnection

The state-owned Egyptian Electricity Transmission Company has completed the first phase of the 500 kV Egypt–Sudan interconnection project. The interconnection aims to facilitate power trade between the two countries and promote stability of the two power systems. Despite completion, the power exchange has not started yet due to the ongoing events and the political unrest in Khartoum, Sudan. Further development in this regard can take place only if Sudanese officials visit Egypt to finalise the mutual power exchange agreement and share information about the transmission infrastructure on both sides.
