AIIB approves loan for 216 MW Upper Trishuli-1 HEP in Nepal

The Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) has approved a loan of $90 million for the 216 MW Upper Trishuli-1 Hydropower Project, AIIB’s first project in Nepal. The project is being developed by the Nepal Water and Energy Development Company under a 35-year build-own-operate-transfer model. The project is being built with a $650 million investment and will be co-financed by the International Finance Corporation, the Asian Development Bank and other institutions. AIIB has also provided Nepal with $900,000 for the proposed 87 MW Tamakoshi V hydroelectric project and $1 million for the proposed power distribution system upgrade and expansion from its Project Preparation Special Fund.
