The Government of Benin has approved the construction of four solar PV power plants with a combined capacity of 50 MW. The projects will be developed under the Millennium Challenge Account-Bénin II (MCA-Benin II) programme, an initiative supported by the US government and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. The US government is contributing approximately $375 million to the programme while Benin is providing another $28 million. The projects will be built through public-private partnerships, and an ad hoc commission will be created to facilitate the procurement process for IPPs.
