The State Grid Corporation of China has awarded ABB a contract for the supply of converter transformers and high voltage equipment for the 800 kV ultra-high voltage direct current Shanbei-Wuhan transmission line. The 1,100 km transmission line starts from the Shanbei convertor station in Yulin city of Shaanxi province to the Wuhan convertor station in Wuhan city, Hubei province, and runs through the Shanxi and Henan provinces. It will transmit up to 8,000 MW of electricity, enough to meet the power needs of 8 million people.
