KETRACO plans the 400/220 kV Mariakani substation in Kilifi county

State-owned Kenya Electricity Transmission Company (KETRACO) plans to commission the 400/220 kV Mariakani substation in Kilifi county by October 2020. The under-construction substation will enable the increased supply of geothermal power from the Olkaria fields in the Rift Valley to the coast area. It will also offer reliable and stable power supply to the proposed Dongo Kundu Special economic zone via the 220 kV Dongo Kundu–Mariakani transmission line. The substation is being constructed by China’s CAMC Engineering Company Limited (CAMCE) and is being co-financed by AfDB and the Kenyan government at a total cost of KES 2.96 billion.
