The Supreme Court has approved the Agra Municipal Corporation’s (AMC) plan to set up a 10 MW waste-to-energy (WtE) plant in Agra in Uttar Pradesh. The project has been pending for the past three years as it is located in the eco-sensitive Taj Trapezium Zone. In February 2019, the Supreme Court directed the Central Pollution Control Board and the National Environment Engineering Research Institute to prepare a report concerning the feasibility of the project. The joint inspection team has submitted a favourable report and now further approvals will be sought for the project. In October 2017, a PPA was signed between Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited and Spark Bresson Private Limited, a Czech company contracted by AMC to set up and operate the project.
