NTPC has terminated the mine development and operation (MDO) contracts awarded to BGR Mining & Infra Limited for the Chatti-Bariatu coal mine in Jharkhand and Talaipalli coal mine in Chhattisgarh. NTPC had awarded the contract for the Chatti-Bariatu mine to BGR Mining and a contract for the Talaipalli mine to a consortium of NCC Limited and BGR Mining in November 2017. The move follows allegations of corruption against BGR. In a separate development, NTPC has received Category I electricity trading licence for trading from the CERC. With the licence, NTPC will not trade electricity generated by it, but it can purchase and sell power involving other entities.
