The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) has approved NHPC Limited’s 2,880 MW Dibang multi-purpose project in Arunachal Pradesh. The CCEA approved the expenditure on pre-investment activities and various clearances for the project at Rs 16 billion. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 280.8 billion, including interest during construction and financing charges of Rs 39.75 billion at the June 2018 price level. Once completed, this will be the largest hydroelectric project in the country. The dam, at 278 metres’ height, will also be the highest dam in India. The project has all statutory clearances, – techno-economic, environmental, forest (Stage l) except forest clearance (Stage II) and defence clearance for seeking investment sanction from the central government.
