Economic Survey 2018-19 highlights power sector’s progress

The Economic Survey of India for 2018-19 has highlighted the paradigm shift in the country’s power sector over the years. As per the survey, the share of renewables in the total generation has increased from 6 per cent in 2014-15 to 10 per cent in 2018-19 and India needs an investment of over $ 250 billion in renewable energy during 2023-30. The survey also lays emphasis on universal electrification under the Saubhagya scheme. As of March 2019, about 26.2 million households have been electrified since the launch of the scheme in October 2017. Also, India improved its ranking to 76th position in the Energy Transition Index published by the World Economic Forum.
