MoP marginally increases budgetary allocation for MoP in Budget 2019-20

The net budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Power (MoP) stands at Rs 158.74 billion under the Union Budget 2019-20, an increase of 1.6 per cent over Rs 156.25 billion (revised estimates) allocated during the previous budget (2018-19). The allocation to central sector schemes registered a decline of 13.62 per cent from Rs 138.57 billion in 2018-19 to Rs 119.69 billion in 2019-20. The investment in public enterprises including NTPC Limited, NHPC Limited, the Damodar Valley Corporation (DVC), North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited (NEEPCO), SJVN Limited, THDC Limited, Power Grid Corporation of India Limited (Powergrid) and the Power Finance Corporation (PFC) has also declined from Rs 737.6 billion in 2018-19 to Rs 436.7 billion in 2019-20. Meanwhile, the net budgetary allocation for the Ministry of Coal stands at Rs 11.59 billion in the Union Budget 2019-20, an increase of 48.39 per cent over the Rs 7.81 billion allocated in the previous budget. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy has been allocated Rs 52.54 billion as against Rs 51.46 billion in the previous year, an increase of 2 per cent.
