Japan’s Chubu Electric Power unbundles the general T&D and retail electricity businesses

Japan’s Chubu Electric Power Company has decided to spin off the general transmission and distribution (T&D), and retail electricity businesses. This move follows the legal obligation of the utility to unbundle power generation and retail business, and the T&D business, by April 2020, aimed at ensuring the neutrality of the electricity T&D industry. Towards this, it recently concluded absorption-type split contracts with the Chubu Electric Power Transmission and Distribution Business Split Preparation Company (new name: Chubu Electric Power Grid) and the Chubu Electric Power Retail Electricity Business Split Preparation Company (new name: Chubu Electric Power MiraiZ).
