NTPC commissions country’s first ultra-supercritical unit at Khargone

NTPC Limited has commissioned the country’s first ultra-supercritical unit of capacity 660 MW at Khargone in Madhya Pradesh. The unit will operate at an efficiency of 41.5 per cent, which is 3.3 per cent higher than supercritical units. The total capacity of the plant will be 1,320 MW with two units of 660 MW each. The project has been executed by Larsen & Toubro (L&T) Power Limited, whose scope of work includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, erection and commissioning of two units of 660 MW each. In a separate development, NTPC has recently commissioned the first 660 MW unit of the 1,980 MW Nabinagar coal-based power plant in Bihar. The project has been implemented by Nabinagar Power Generating Company, a wholly owned subsidiary of NTPC.
