MPUVNL closes India’s first solar rooftop tender

Madhya Pradesh Urja Vikas Nigam Limited had invited bids for tendering 10.8 MW capacity solar PV rooftop project for industries located in the Mandideep industrial area, near Bhopal. This was the first solar rooftop tender for industries under the demand aggregation model in India, under which developers were selected following a reverse e-auction process. The discovered solar tariff was Rs 4.61 per unit in comparison with the discom’s tariff of more than Rs 7.50 per unit. The tender aims to save Rs 23.9 million during its first year and a cumulative Rs 2.33 billion over a life of 25 years. In this tender, 164 industrial beneficiaries will procure solar power under the RESCO model. These beneficiaries are a mix of small, medium and large industries having a different financial profile, contract demand, electricity consumption profile and rooftop size. Further, these industries are grouped into three packages of 3.6 MW each. There is no subsidy component involved in the project.
