Mozambique’s EDM awards contracts for first phase of the Caia-Nacala Transmission Project

Mozambique’s Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) has awarded contracts for the first phase of the Caia-Nacala Transmission Project, also known as the Second Chimuara-Nacala Power Transmission Project. The first phase, valued at $200 million, will carry power from Chimuara to Alto Molocue, and will be financed by the IsDB. The first contract has been awarded to the Indian EPC major Larsen & Toubro, for the 367 km long, 400 kV Chimuara-Alto Molocue line, valued at $77.2 million. The second contract has been awarded to the Spanish Elecnor for the establishment of a substation at Chimuara, valued at $64.3 million. The duration of both works is 24 months. Further, the project entails two more phases. The second phase runs from Alto Molocue to Namialo, while Phase III will run from Namialo to Nacala.
