National Economic Council of Pakistan approves transmission project

The executive committee of the National Economic Council of Pakistan has approved a project for interlinking the 220 kV Daharki, Rahim Yar Khan, Bahawalpur and Chishtian grid stations. This has been approved at a revised cost of PKR 15.8 billion, including a foreign exchange component of PRK 9.8 billion. The project aims to provide reliable and uninterrupted power supply in the Hyderabad Electric Supply Company and Multan Electric Power Supply Company areas. Specifically, the interlinking of the Daharki and Rahim Yar Khan grid stations via a 220 kV transmission line would provide a backup link among Multan, Guddu and Shikarpur; while the proposed Rahim Yar Khan-Bahawalpur line and in/out of the 220 kV Vehari- Chishtian single-circuit transmission line would provide an additional source of supply to the Bahawalpur and Chishtian grid stations.
