Central government launches PRAKASH portal for monitoring coal supply

The central government has launched PRAKASH (Power Rail Koyla Availability through Supply Harmony), a web portal to track the movement of coal from mines to power plants. The portal is designed to help in monitoring the coal supply chain for power plants including coal stock at supply end (mines), coal quantities/ rakes planned for delivery, coal quantity in transit and coal availability at power generating stations. With the help of the new portal, coal companies will be able to track stocks and coal requirements at power stations for effective production planning. This will also enable the railways to place the rakes as per actual coal availability at the sidings and stock availability at the power stations. This will allow power stations to plan their future schedules by learning about the rakes in the pipeline and the expected time to reach.
